Chapman named project director in international partnership funded by $50 million grant to address emerging pandemic threats

ChapmanDavid-2013David Chapman, professor in the Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development (OLPD), has been named as project director of the new USAID-funded One Health Workforce  project centered in the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Under a new five-year award of up to $50 million, the U of M and Tufts University will be part of an international partnership of universities to strengthen global workforce development against emerging pandemic threats. The focus is on helping universities and university networks in East Africa and Southeast Asia develop more interdisciplinary approaches in the preparation of those working in health-related fields.

The long-term goal is to improve countries’ ability to address emerging pandemic threats, such as Ebola, SARS, and bird flu. Chapman’s involvement is linked to his professional work on cross-border collaboration in higher education and the dynamics of international university networks.
