Antunovic receives sport sociology Early Career Researcher Award

Dunja Antunovic, PhD

Dunja Antunovic, PhD, assistant professor of sport sociology in the School of Kinesiology, affiliated scholar in the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport, and affiliate faculty with the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication, received the 2022 SSJ (Sociology of Sport Journal) Early Career Researcher Award. The award, sponsored by Human Kinetics, is given annually at the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS) conference to one early career scholar, “in recognition of the significant scholarly contributions to the sociology of sport field.”

The selection committee’s vote was unanimous, remarking on Antunovic’s research productivity, theoretical contributions in feminist sport media studies, and public scholarship, among others. Doug Hartmann, PhD, Professor of Sociology at the University of Minnesota, nominated Antunovic for the award. Antunovic was recognized at the NASSS conference in Las Vegas on November 11, 2022.
