Family Social Science commemorates launch of new online course

Dr. Pauline Boss signed copies of her book on ambiguous loss at the National Council on Family Relations annual conference in November.

Family Social Science and Educational Technology Innovations will celebrate ambiguous loss research, teaching and clinical practice at an event April 23.

The Ambiguous Loss framework, pioneered by FSoS Professor Emeritus Dr. Pauline Boss, has been used by professionals across cultures and disciplines to help individuals cope with losses that remain unclear and without certainty. Dr. Boss’s work will now be accessible to professionals globally with the launch of the first fully online continuing education certificate course, Ambiguous Loss: Its Meaning and Application.

The April 23 event will kick off with three short presentations on ambiguous loss to illustrate the breadth and depth of the Department’s commitment to this work as faculty prepare a new generation of scholars and practitioners. Speakers include:

  • Tai Mendenhall, Ph.D., FSoS associate professor
  • Carla Dahl, CFLE, professor, Luther Seminary
  • Chalandra Bryant, Ph.D., professor, University of Georgia

The event will also introduce the 2019-20 Ambiguous Loss Scholar.

Members of the community are invited join ETI and the Family Social Science community to learn more and to network with professionals whose work helps those experiencing ambiguous loss. Please RSVP by April 16.
