Nicole LaVoi, PhD, senior lecturer in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Tucker Center, along with Dunja Antunovic, PhD, assistant professor, have co-authored a chapter entitled “Sociological Aspects of Sport Management” in the 7th edition of the Contemporary Sport Management textbook. Tucker Center external affiliated scholar, Nancy Lough, PhD, professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, is also a co-author of the chapter. The chapter discusses the social and cultural significance of sport in society, including issues of gender, race, and sexuality. The chapter also points to recent social justice initiatives by sponsors, athletes, and media organizations that have the potential to challenge existing norms.
