Youth Studies students win President’s Student Leadership and Service Award

Two SSW Youth Studies student leaders have received the prestigious 2021 President’s Student Leadership and Service Award. These awards honor outstanding students for their invaluable leadership and service to the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and the community. 

Jalisa Sang is majoring in Family Social Science and Youth Studies, with a minor in Public Health who sees advocacy as a big part of her life through leadership. “I came to CEHD because I wanted to pursue a career in social work,” she says. “I’m leaning toward health care as well and I’m hoping to get a master’s degree in social work and public health or possibly go to medical school.”

Sorena Yang

Sorena Yang is majoring in Youth Studies, with a minor in Social Justice who believes in the power of knowledge, storytelling, and allyship. “I am proud of cultivating a healing space for my fellow community leaders so they can grow and restore justice and peace within themselves.”
