Cicchetti elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences

CicchettiD-PrefDante Cicchetti, McKnight Presidential Chair and William Harris Professor of Child Psychology and Psychiatry at the Institute of Child Development, has been elected a member of American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The 197 members of the Academy’s Class of 2015 include Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize recipients; MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellows; and Grammy, Emmy, Oscar, and Tony Award winners as well as some of the world’s most accomplished scholars, scientists, writers, artists, and civic, business, and philanthropic leaders. The new class will be inducted at a ceremony on October 10, 2015, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dante Cicchetti is one of the world’s leading researchers in developmental and clinical psychology; recognized by his peers as a visionary for his innovative, interdisciplinary, multiple-level research approach to studying the pathways to maladaptation, psychopathology, and resilience in maltreated children and for shaping and defining the field of developmental psychopathology.

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences is one of the nation’s most prestigious honorary societies and is a leading center for independent policy research. Established in 1780, the Academy serves the nation as a champion of scholarship, civil dialogue, and useful knowledge.

In the Academy’s announcement, Don Randel, Chair of the Academy’s Board of Directors said: “We are honored to elect a new class of extraordinary women and men to join our distinguished membership. Each new member is a leader in his or her field and has made a distinct contribution to the nation and the world. We look forward to engaging them in the intellectual life of this vibrant institution.”
