Connect Magazine features ICD research in Uganda and at home
The College of Education and Human Development’s Connect Magazine is now online for Fall 2013 and features the research of several Institute of Child Development faculty, students and staff. In the article, Triangles for Change, the research conducted by the late professor Nicki Crick, graduate student Kathryn Hecht, ICD administrator Peter Ralston and Shirley G. Moore Lab School teacher Ross Thompson in Uganda is highlighted. In the article, Hecht describes the approach that Crick took to her research in Uganda, “In those final years we were witnessing a shift as Nicki’s passion guided us once again, toward a more global and inclusive view of the field of child development.”
The work of Dante Cicchetti, McKnight Presidential Chair and William Harris Professor of Child Development and Psychiatry at ICD, is featured in the article, Never Lose Hope, which announces the opening of Cicchetti’s new research lab at ICD. In the article, Cicchetti stresses the value of research-based interventions: “There’s always hope if you’re doing good prevention and intervention. You can’t just look at a child and say: ‘Well, they were abused in the first, second, and third year of life so they’re doomed forever.’ They’re not. Never lose hope.”
