She is personally and professionally motivated to better the lives of children by providing individualized opportunities during the developmental period. Learn more about Yaxin and her experience below.
Why did you choose the Institute of Child Development?
I chose the Institute of Child Development for its world-class reputation, dedicated and compassionate staff and faculty, and strong academic research that supports the ongoing improvement for better teaching practices. Also, as ICD has a long history in the field of education and child development, I feel assured that I can learn a lot from my experiences with children and faculty.
How did you become interested in early childhood/early childhood education?
My interest in pursuing an early childhood degree looms large every time I think about raising my future child. Knowing how much early education has been overlooked by society, I feel the urge to educate myself about child development and want to become a blessing for the future young generation to guide them, not only through developmentally appropriate ways but also with faith, hope, and love. I would love to provide individualized opportunities for the younger generations and witness them reaching their full potential and making effort to create a more equitable society. Children are not incapable of making changes. Oftentimes, it’s just that they don’t receive the amount of support that is due.
What do you plan to do following completion of your studies?
After completing my studies at the University of Minnesota, I plan to work at local schools while continuing to pursue Montessori credentials and advocate for the rights of children. It is my dream to found a Christian school in China someday and to reach out to children who do not have equitable access to resources. I would love to see a society where early education is valued and where children are given adequate support to success because “the child is both a hope and a promise for mankind” (Maria Montessori).
If you could give advice to future ICD early childhood students, what would you say?
To future ICD early childhood students: this will be a one-of-a-kind experience where you not only get to learn child development knowledge and have face-to-face interaction with children but also get to know the AMAZING faculty and staff who are always there for YOU. If you are curious and driven about how to guide and teach the future generation, go for it! It will be rewarding and worthwhile.
