ICD alumna Peggy Flanagan elected Lt. Governor of Minnesota

Peggy Flanagan, an alumna of the Institute of Child Development (ICD), will be sworn-in as the lieutenant governor of Minnesota in January, after being elected on November 6. Flanagan earned a bachelor’s degree in child psychology from ICD in 2002.

Flanagan was the running mate of Tim Walz, who was elected Minnesota’s 41st governor. Flanagan will be the highest ranking Native American elected official in Minnesota history. She is a citizen of the White Earth Nation of Ojibwe.

After she graduated from the University of Minnesota, Flanagan worked at Wellstone Action as director and founder of the Native American Leadership Program and as director of external affairs. She then joined the Children’s Defense Fund-Minnesota as their executive director. In 2015, she was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives.
