Joe Cossette (MEd ’16) is being honored as the Local PhysTEC Teacher of the Year from the University of Minnesota by the Physics Teacher Education Coalition (PhysTEC). This award recognizes Cossette as an exemplary teacher. The PhysTEC Teacher of the Year program recognizes outstanding high school physics educators who demonstrate the impact and value of physics teacher preparation programs. Each year, PhysTEC member institutions submit their recommendations to the selection committee, and one National Teacher of the Year and several local teachers of the year are selected. Cossette was nominated for his innovative use of technology focused on student engagement and learning, his passion and commitment for creating active learning experiences that attend to equity and differentiation, and his leadership roles in his science department as chair, as IB curriculum lead, and as he strives towards National Board Certification.
