School of Social Work doctoral student receives $40,000 American Cancer Society research grant

Missy-LundquistMissy Lundquist, a School of Social Work doctoral student, has won the highly competitive Doctoral Training Grant in Oncology Social Work from the American Cancer Society. This is a two-year, $40,000 grant, which is awarded to qualifying doctoral students at schools of social work that train individuals to conduct research related to the psychosocial needs of people with cancer and their families.
Her research will examine how a diagnosis of advanced cancer in a parent impacts a family, making a special effort to include families that are traditionally underserved in American society. Her goal is to develop interventions that strengthen families across cultures as they face a diagnosis of parental cancer.
