On January 31, Birkmaier Education Leadership Professor and school psychology program coordinator Amanda Sullivan was honored by the Minnesota School Psychologists Association (MSPA) with the Ysseldyke Best Practices Award. The award was created “honor those professionals whose principles, standards, and dedication have enhanced the field of school psychology” and is named for James Ysseldyke, professor emeritus in the Department of Educational Psychology, for his pioneering leadership locally and nationally.
As a member of the school psychology program, Sullivan has developed and taught courses addressing ethical and legal issues in school psychology, research based practices engaging diverse students and families, the scientific and historical bases of school psychology, and research methods. She leads three federally funded training grants aimed at reducing shortages of school psychologists and special educators locally and nationally and publishes extensively on topics related to educational disparities and equity in school psychology and special education.
