An article in The Fort Collins Coloradoan recently noted the research of professor Maureen Weiss. The article, “Parents find benefits, drawbacks in coaching their kids,” made mention of Weiss’ 2005 work on parent-coach/child-athlete relationships.
A 2005 study by psychology of physical activity expert Maureen Weiss provided sometimes conflicting conclusions. The study was titled The parent-coach/child-athlete relationship in youth sports: Cordial, contentious, or conundrum? It suggested that teammates of coaches’ sons recognized that parent coaches were often harder on their own children. However, some teammates also reported feeling that the coach showed favoritism.
