Wade gives invited lectures in China, reconnects with long-time colleague

wade-chinaProfessor Michael Wade, Ph.D., recently visited the American Cultural Center for Sport at Tianjin University of Sport (TUS) and gave a lecture, “Life time motor development: Movement by design and movement that informs,” to over one hundred graduate students and faculty members.
TUS President Yao Jiaxin was Wade’s translator when he visited China in 1989. The visit served as a reunion and reflected a long history of academic exchange between the two countries. During the visit, Yao showed the old photos and letters of their previous meeting over two decades ago.

Prior to visiting TUS, Wade and his wife Marta also visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University and East China Normal University and gave a joint lecture. School of Kinesiology Director Li Li Ji, Ph.D., accompanied the Wades and served as translator and moderator for both lectures.
The American Cultural Center for Sport was funded by a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of State and is a partnership between the University’s China Center and School of Kinesiology and the Tianjin University of Sport in Tianjin, China. The American Cultural Center takes advantage of the many resources of the University of Minnesota, including its highly ranked School of Kinesiology and its NCAA Division I athletics programs.
