KIN Graduates Quoted in the New York Times

New research by recent School of Kinesiology graduates, Dr. DJ McDonough and Dr. Zachary
Pope
, was quoted in the New York Times. McDonough and Pope were mentored by Dr. Zan Gao
and were research assistants in the Physical Activity Epidemiology Laboratory (PAEL).

Their study, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, examined the dose-response association of aerobic and muscle-strengthening physical activity with all cause mortality. Theirs was the first study to identify the dose-response and ‘minimal effective dose’ of each form of activity to help reduce risk of death by all causes among adults.

McDonough is currently a postdoctoral research fellow within the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health. Pope is currently a Research Scientist in the Well Living Lab and an Adjunct Assistant Professor within Mayo Clinic’s Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering.
