Dr. Mary Jo Kane, director of the Tucker Center and professor in the School of Kinesiology, is a panelist at the 2014 Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) annual conference in Arlington, VA, on June 26. The session, “Portrayal of women by sports media: A frank discussion about how women are presented in sports coverage. It’s not about the level of coverage; it’s how it is presented,” also includes Christine Brennan, USAToday sports columnist and best-selling author, Missy Meharg, University of Maryland Terrapins field hockey head coach for 27 years, and Monica McNutt, former Georgetown basketball standout and sports reporter and anchor at CTV Washington. Kane’s invited presentation is “Does sex really sell?: Consumer Responses to Media Representations of Women’s Sports.”
