Nicole M. LaVoi, PhD, Tucker Center director and senior lecturer in the School of Kinesiology, recently discussed gender pay inequity in sports in a CBS News article entitled, “U.S. soccer has equal gender pay. Will other sports follow?” This comes after the U.S. Soccer Federation announced that the women’s team would finally receive compensation equal to the men’s team. LaVoi notes that positive steps have been taken toward equal pay, but emphasizes that considerable action is still needed, pointing to WNBA players as well as tennis stars Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams as focal points in the fight for equal pay.
