This past week, DJ McDonough, PhD, recent School of Kinesiology PhD graduate, accepted a T32 postdoctoral research fellowship funded by the National Institutes of Health’s National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, within the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health, Division of Epidemiology and Community Health. McDonough’s research will be in Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention and will focus on the behavioral and/or environmental exposures influencing cardiometabolic health with attention to novel physiological intermediates (e.g., gut microbiome composition) connecting these exposures and outcomes.

“Given my exercise physiology background and my current epidemiological research emphasis, this fellowship is a great fit and will provide opportunities for me to continue growing my research acumen,” says McDonough.

A recipient of the University of Minnesota’s Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship for 2020-21, McDonough was recently a research assistant in the Physical Activity Epidemiology Laboratory (PAEL) under the leadership of his adviser, Zan Gao, PhD.
